Who am I? Why am I doing this?

I am Mumma to the happiest little boy I know. I do not want him to miss out on everything that other children have and so I strive to find and change recipes to make them work and I want to share them for every other child / person out there.

Five years ago I had a little boy, for the first two weeks everything was hunky dory, but then…

the screaming started, the sickness started, the constantly backwards and forwards to the Drs started…

then some useful suggestions hmmmm….. could he have CMPA (Cows Milk Protein Allergy), a referral to a paediatrician and a reflux diagnosis. Is he in a vicious circle of drinking too much milk, his throat burning, so drinking more milk to sooth his throat, but then drinking too much again.

Things were looking up, but still not quite right… lets start solids at 14 weeks.

On the whole this was better, however what nobody tells you is that some foods are ‘safe’ and some can make reflux worse! So one food for three days before trying the next, again this worked, but still not quite right…

Then came the gaviscon, which did not help only made him constipated and then came the ranitidine, which really did help until he put weight on.

Then came the omeprazole, finally we had a happy baby until…

we tried him with products containing wheat at 6 months old, then the constipation and the screaming baby again and the maybe he cant have wheat…

We stopped the wheat happier baby… but still the constipation…

then came the lactulose, which did nothing more than make him more constipated…

then a referral back to the paediatrician, who told us he had a blockage (of poo) at the start of his large intestine, then laxatives to shift the blockage… senna, movicol, picosulphate (or however you spell it), docusate…. happier baby until…

He cant have milk so lets try soya… ahh lets stop soya!

Lets allergy test him for all these things and some more…

negative to all!

but yet he still cant eat them…

We’ve tried the milk ladder – we had to stop! Constipation

we’ve tried reintroducing soya – we had to stop! Constipation

we’ve accidentally tried gluten (pringles at a friends house, he was fed by another child) just be glad you weren’t in the toilet after we changed that nappy, it was everywhere!

So as you can see for whatever reason, he just cannot tolerate these foods, so that is why I am writing this blog and striving to find Good (gluten) Simple (soya) Delicious (dairy) Foods (free)!!

We are however going to continue to try and introduce these foods back in, firstly going to try and get his constipation under control by trying Optifibre alongside his senna and docusate, hopefully then we will be starting the crumb ladder.
